Celebrated veteran Anshuman Gaekwad, 71, passes away

Former Indian cricketing legend, Anshuman Gaekwad, has passed away at the age of 71 after a valiant battle with cancer. Gaekwad, who represented India in 40 Tests and 15 ODIs, was also known for his coaching stint with the Indian team during the 2000 ICC Champions Trophy.

Anshuman Gaekwad had been undergoing treatment for blood cancer at King’s College Hospital in London before returning to India recently. The BCCI generously contributed Rs 1 crore towards his medical expenses, with members of the 1983 World Cup-winning team also extending their support.

With a career spanning over 22 years and 205 first-class matches, Gaekwad left an indelible mark on the cricketing world. His coaching achievements further solidified his legacy, especially during memorable moments such as Anil Kumble’s historic 10-wicket haul against Pakistan in 1999.
