However, the roadmap highlights several challenges that are hindering long-term improvements in BGP security. One significant hurdle is that the negative impacts of BGP vulnerabilities are often not directly experienced by service providers. This results in little motivation for them to invest in critical upgrades or changes, as the financial benefits aren’t immediately apparent. Additionally, many service providers will face the considerable task of replacing or upgrading their routers to ensure compatibility with the proposed enhancements, further complicating the reform process.
