Brad Stevens Strongly Supports Jaylen Brown Despite Team USA Snub

The Boston Celtics are still grabbing eyeballs even after bagging the NBA championship just a month ago.

The spotlight is shining bright on Celtics ace Jaylen Brown, who felt disappointed after getting snubbed from Team USA for the upcoming Olympic Games and shared his emotions about it recently.

Brad Stevens, the president of basketball operations for the Celtics, couldn’t dodge the issue either. He tactfully tackled the matter concerning Brown during a Celtics Summer League match in Las Vegas.

“Jaylen is a fantastic player. There’s no doubt he could make it to any team, any Olympic team, any year,” Stevens told media, according to CLNS Media. “But in the end, he discussed his approach, mentioned calling Derrick (White), and shared his own feelings about it. I believe in Jaylen. Whether he faces success or disappointment like missing out on the team, I know he’ll remain driven and ambitious. That’s what I admire about him. He always bounces back to work.”

Brown caused quite a stir last week when another Celtics teammate was picked to replace the injured Kawhi Leonard on Team USA. Brown hinted that the reason he was excluded was related to Nike. Brown has criticized the company in the past, which also has a strong partnership with USA basketball.

As highlighted by Stevens, there’s a silver lining in this situation for Brown and the Celtics. Brown could come back stronger next season, eager to prove a point even after winning MVP honors in the Eastern Conference finals and NBA Finals.

Brown, who averaged 23 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 3.6 assists during the 2023-24 season, felt slighted this past season when he was left off all three All-NBA teams and also received no All-Defensive acknowledgment.

The Team USA incident is likely to fuel Brown’s competitive spirit as he aims to lead the Celtics in their quest to defend their championship title.
