Hideki Matsuyama Dominates at FedEx St. Jude Championship!
Japanese golf sensation Hideki Matsuyama showcased his brilliance at the FedEx St. Jude Championship by carding an impressive six-under 64, giving him a commanding five-stroke lead going into the final round. His exceptional performance left the competition in awe as he pulled away from the crowded field.
Denny McCarthy, who was initially tied for the lead with Matsuyama, faced a challenging round with four bogeys before registering his first birdie. He now finds himself tied for sixth place, eight shots behind the leader. On the other hand, Sam Burns and world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler struggled to maintain their positions with rounds of 70 and 69, respectively.
The top 50 players in the tournament will secure a spot in the BMW Championship next week, guaranteeing their participation in all the prestigious $20 million events next year. Viktor Hovland showed promise with a strong third-round performance, placing him in third and trailing Matsuyama by six shots.
Unfortunately, Jordan Spieth’s season took a disappointing turn as two double-bogeys in his round of 74 dropped him to 69th place. Will Zalatoris, currently ranked No. 49, moved up the leaderboard with a solid round of 67, securing a tie for sixth place and likely securing his position in the top 50.
Heading into the final round, players like Justin Rose and Adam Scott are on the bubble to advance. Rose, tied for ninth, sits 55th in the FedEx Cup standings, while Scott, tied for 25th, is 46th. The excitement continues on Sunday at TPC Southwind in Memphis, with every moment broadcasted live on Sky Sports Golf starting at 4pm.
