Sydney McLaughlin dominates as Olympic 400m hurdle champ, breaks record

Saint Denis, France witnessed a historic moment as Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone set a new world record and defended her Olympic title in the women’s 400-meter hurdles at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics. She dominated the race, leaving her competitors far behind. Her US teammate Anna Cockrell secured the silver medal while Femke Bol from the Netherlands grabbed the bronze.

McLaughlin-Levrone emphasized the importance of focusing on the hurdles rather than the competitors, as she cruised to victory in 50.37 seconds. Bol, on the other hand, struggled with lactic acid buildup in the final stretch, causing her to lose her pace.

This win marked the third time McLaughlin-Levrone outperformed Bol in a major competition, showcasing her dominance in the event. The US athlete credits her success to her rigorous training with coach Bobby Kersee in Los Angeles.

The race was described as a renaissance for the 400-meter hurdles, with the medalists breaking records and running at incredible speeds. Cockrell, in particular, felt the pressure after the seventh hurdle and managed to secure her personal best time to claim the silver medal.

As McLaughlin-Levrone crossed the finish line, setting a new world record for the sixth time, the crowd cheered her on. She expressed her desire to keep pushing the boundaries and evolve in her sport.
