The battle for the top spot in the 2024 Paris Olympics medal table is heating up between the USA and China. The USA, with their impressive track record of finishing first in the medal table at 18 out of 29 summer Olympics, are once again the favourites. However, China, who came close in the last Olympics in Tokyo, are proving to be stiff competition.
This time around, Russia has been banned due to their invasion of Ukraine, and their athletes will compete as neutral athletes (AIN). France is expected to climb the table as the host nation, having won 10 gold medals in Tokyo.
The medal table is ranked based on the number of gold medals each nation wins, with silver and bronze used as tie-breakers. The closing ceremony for the Paris Olympics is on Sunday, 11 August.
